The Italian Match Race Championship has just concluded, once again proving to be a key and hugely enjoyable event of our H22 Aon Cup 2025.
The flawless organization by Yacht Club Verbano and two beautiful windy days made the weekend splendid and allowed the Race Committee to complete the entire program without a hitch.
The Round Robin took center stage on Saturday, during which each crew had the chance to face all the others. Perfect weather conditions for hard-fought races with constant crossings and maneuvers set the scene for all the matches. Starting off strong and taking the provisional podium were ITA 126 El Tortuga from the LNI Mandello team, ITA 112 of Alberto Valli, and ITA 137 of Maddalena Rossi, in first, second, and third place respectively.
On Sunday, the crews hit the water very early for the final series of races. The decidedly stronger wind did not hinder the competition—in fact, it made the racing even more thrilling. Winning all direct matches and confirming its place at the top of the leaderboard was ITA 126 El Tortuga, which also took home the title of H22 Italian Match Race Champion, followed by ITA 112 of Alberto Valli, solidly in second place. ITA 202 of Matteo Nasini managed to climb one position at the very last possible opportunity, securing third place on the podium.
A warm thank you goes to Yacht Club Verbano for their exceptional hospitality. We can’t wait to be back!
