Marco Magnaghi, Andrea Viganò, Nicolò Gaddi, Edoardo Fagioli and Filippo Magnaghi on ITA 139 are the new Italian H22 Champions!
The 2025 Italian Championship wrapped up just a few days ago in Gravedona, and we can proudly say it was a true success—an event worthy of celebrating the 20th anniversary of our H22 class.
Thirteen boats entered, with a mix of seasoned veterans and new arrivals to the fleet. Throughout the season, the level of competition kept growing, and the flawless organization both on land and on the water set the stage for a thrilling, hard-fought regatta. Many crews arrived with every chance of claiming the Italian Champion title.
The opening day was far from ideal, with tricky weather—an understatement—that forced the Race Committee to abandon any attempt to get the first race started.
A light afternoon breeze on the second day finally allowed a race to take place, lifting spirits at least a little. In a course that was anything but easy to read, ITA 139 with Marco Magnaghi’s crew provisionally took the lead, followed by ITA 126 El Tortuga in second place and ITA 134 with the Orza Minore team in third. If one race helped reignite the mood, the regatta party did the rest. It was truly special and moving to celebrate such an important anniversary in such a wonderful atmosphere!
And what better way to wrap it all up than with a fully packed third day on the water?
Crews set off early in the morning for an opening race in light wind, followed by three more in the afternoon with a slightly stronger Breva. Marco Magnaghi’s ITA 139 confirmed their great form and the performance shown the day before, consistently finishing at the top (1-1-2-1-(4)) and clinching the Italian H22 Champion title. El Tortuga ITA 126 (2-(9)-3-3-1) held on to second place, thanks to steady results and the ability to bounce back after a difficult start to the day. Closing out the podium was ITA 114 with Riccardo Caponera’s crew (6-3-1-(ocs)-5), proving themselves a solid team in their first season together in the H22.
A heartfelt thank you to Quantum Pro Laghi for supporting the event and offering up a brand-new jib and a jib cover to be raffled among all participants. Thanks also to Aon for their constant support throughout the season. Finally, a special thanks to AVAL: the hospitality in Gravedona is always second to none!
